Stargate SG1 is one of my favorite tv shows at the moment. Here in Melbourne because the Victorians just love their sport SG1 is always the first thing to get dumped, and as it is Scifi (even main stream Scifi like SG1) it just gets kicked around, put on later and later at night, and even just take off in the middle of the season.
ATM we are in the middle of season 6, since earlier in the year they just showed the first couple of episodes and then just dumped it. Even South Australia are in season 7, and they are suppose to be 20 years behind Victoria. They have just brought it back on at 10:30pm wednesday and thursday which sucks.
I have been purchasing SG1 since I have been able to get it on VHS, so I have a fairly large collection and because they will not release the VHS ahead of the tv, I only have to the start of season 6.
Now I could do the bad thing and download them from the net, which will not impact the amount of money that they are going to get from me, as I am still going to buy the VHS, and maybe someday I will replace all the VHS with DVD. (I would get the DVD now, except it is even further behind.) Then I will get sent C&D orders from the MPAA, who in all fairness are just trying to protect their members property.
Unforcantly the MPAA has just way to much money, and don't care about looking at better methods for the members to make more money, they just want keep the status-quo, even though in my case the it is the fault of the members licencee stuffing me around all the time with my favority program so this makes me want to bad things because seven are just next to useless when it comes to showing Scifi.
So what does the mean for Stargate Alantis, Do I have to wait another 18 months before they show it on tv, before I can even buy it. I just wish Seven would get their act together.
Well I have been doing alot of work laterly on my little htmlarea module for drupal. With the new menu extensions, I have been able to create add alot more to the configuration to get the best out of htmlarea.
Thanks to a little help from the Australian Industry Group I have been able to make alot of new features available, Such things as a new link plugin, that will allow uploading of files into filestore2, and the new plugin configuration infrustructure so now plugins like the CSS plugin which require addition parameters to be passed can be added and configured much like the rest of htmlarea.
Also I have been working on allowing better configuration of some of the pull down lists like fonts to be configured. As you can see I now have a "Code" block on the block pull down list.
I have also been able to track down alot of those nasty little IE bugs as well and fix them good and proper.
At this stage I think this is the best release of htmlarea, and I do feel that this will make htmlarea just able a default module at the top of everybodies list of contrib modules.
Well last night I managed to pick up off ebay the machine that I have been wanting for years.
It's a Digital Alphaserver 400, and it only cost me $AU66.00. So this little miachine is going to take pride of place in my office Once I clean off the harddrive a bit I will be able to set up some stuff on it.
The preformance doesn't compare to my laptop or my workstation but this is the cleanest unix I have ever used, and the advfs file system beats anything else out their. It is a pity that HP are in the process of discontinuing tru64, and would really love it is they could make the advfs and tools open source. This would just be the best and be really easy to build file systems that span multiple disks.
Well I have been very busy, we had Xander's 3rd birthday, which was really fun. Sarah is going to upload the photos as soon as I get some stuff fixed.
I have also go myself a new laptop. It is a NEC M400, which is really good, and works really well with linux. I got rid of windows and loaded up debian sarge. It work working like a treat. I also got a access point and a wireless card which I am using so I can sometimes work inside instead of in the office. I am going to put up a couple of pages so that I can create a link from www.linux-on-laptops.com so other people can gain from what I did here.
Samantha is growing so much, Sarah Mum is coming down thursday week. She has not seen Samantha or Xander since easter, so she is going to be shocked about how much that have both grown.
Xander is starting to really talk now, He is coming out with new words everyday, and you can just about undrstand him most of the time. We have registered him in a kindergarten for next, in which he is going to be going a couple of times a week.
Well I need to go, see if I can fix some more things.
Well she finally did it, last friday Samantha took her first steps, between Sarah and me. it was only about 3 steps, but she did do it a couple of times.
Also last Friday, we enroled Xander in kindergarten, so next year he will be starting 3 year old kindy.
I have been working with a new spam filter called dspam, which is just great.
There are a couple of things that I do not like about it, esp. the cgi. but it is nothing that I can't fix.
So to fix the cgi I am creating a drupal module that will allow me to administer all the users at my work, and be able to set up the view all the same imformation, but in a much nicer environment.
I have been playing with the new version of drupal from CVS. I really like the new menu system. It just makes somethings little more logical.I also got sick of the phplayersmenu not working in IE for some reason. I know that I use Firefox all the time, but I do have some IE users who visit my site. I found that I was including something that I didn't need too. I have removed that and upgraded to 3.1.5 which has a couple of changes in it. such as where the images are stored.
Well I am on holiday at the moment, and I am starting to relax a little.
We have just able gotten all the damage from Sarah's little accident all fixed. The brickies are here fixing the wall and was have all the things that were destroyed replaced by the insurance company. We got a new computer which is quite nice. We are still waiting for the car to be fixed, and Lalor Crash Repairs is giving us a replacement car until it is fixed. This will be really good.
Xander has already broken it by using the tray of the cdrom as a step. I had to pull it apart and get the try put back on the rails and fix some broken parts.
Samantha is now crawling. but just after she worked out that, she started climbing up against things. Sarah is not happy because it looks like she is going to be walking at 9 months. And if she is anything like Xander she will only walk for a couple of weeks and then start running.
At the moment Mum, Jenica and Mark are over staying, which is really good to see them. Mum just got herself a digital camera, and she is taking pictures of everything.
